obstacles present a new opportunity

The challenge:
With one of Indiana’s largest events of the year looming a client needed a cell site located in the heart of the event, the Indianapolis Convention Center. FMHC was provided with a two week window to procure, build and test a roof top cell site on the Convention Center located in downtown Indianapolis.

Our solution:
When presented with the task, several obstacles were evident to the FMHC team; Materials, Scheduling and Permitting. With the compressed timeframe FMHC had a limited number of days to order the materials and to crane lift them to the rooftop location. To compound the demands, the first week of constructability was divided by the Fourth of July holiday.

FMHC was able to negotiate a crane lift time with the Convention Center; which was still in operation and hosting 3 national conventions at the time of construction. The crane required four lanes of a vital downtown artery be closed which was coordinated quickly with the city of Indianapolis, and agreements were put in place with the local trade unions who provided support for the lift.

Prep work on the cell site was performed in the days leading up to the crane lift; work continued the day of the lift and for three days after the crane delivered the materials. FMHC was able to turn the site over to our client one day ahead of schedule, with no temporary solutions needed. All facets of our scope were permanent and complete.

Our client was shocked that FMHC was able to build a rooftop cell site in the two weeks provided, “I thought it was impossible to build a rooftop in two weeks, but FMHC did it, hats off to you.”
